  • One application gives rapid knockdown and kill, whilst barrier action prevents germination for up to 9 months
  • For use on gravel and soft surfaces
  • - Rainfast within 1 hour
  • Classified as non-hazardous/non-irritant for the operator
  • Contains highly effective, proven new chemistry
  • Fast acting due to synergy of two potent actives (effects seen within 8-10 days)

Pistol Will Control:

PISTOL® herbicide has a broad spectrum of activity. It will give initial knockdown and thereafter residual control of a wide variety of broadleaved weeds and narrow-leaved weeds. Some examples of these weeds include Common Daisy, Groundsel, Cranesbill, Dandelion, Forget-me-not, Ragwort, Reddead-nettle, Rose Bay Willow Herb, Thistles, Speedwell and Annual Meadowgrass. PISTOL® herbicide controls these weeds for a period of over 6 months. PISTOL® herbicide gives excellent control of a broad range of problematic species. Because of the synergistic effect of the two active ingredients, PISTOL® herbicide will give a faster effect than a straight glyphosate application. With Glyphosate only, effects are normally seen on broad leaved perennials 14-21 days after application (depending on conditions); with PISTOL® herbicide effects are normally seen 8-10 days after application. With straight glyphosate formulations, weeds soon re-grow after treatment. PISTOL® herbicide however, with its unique diflufenican barrier™ activity inhibits re-growth and ensures excellent levels of weed control for up to 9 months after treatment.

Application Timing
Apply PISTOL® herbicide post-emergence of weeds at any time from March until the end of September, provided that the weeds are actively growing. Annual broadleaved weeds should have at least two fully exposed leaves, and annual grasses should be at the one leaf growth stage or beyond. Some perennial weeds, including Docks, Perennial Sow Thistle and Willowherb are best treated just before flowering or the setting of seed.

PISTOL® herbicide has foliar absorbed translocated activity, combined with soil acting properties, providing pre-emergence weed control.

The product is applied post emergence to control a wide range of annual and perennial broad-leaved weeds and grasses on porous surfaces on land not intended to bear vegetation.

Operator Safety

PISTOL® herbicide is classified as Non-Hazardous and Non-Irritant to the operator under Chip 3 and COSHH regulations. PISTOL® herbicide is a waterbased, non-solvent formulation.

Mode of Action

The 2 active ingredients in PISTOL® herbicide have complementary modes of action. Diflufenican (DFF) is extremely hydrophobic:

    • Once applied, it adheres to the surface and forms a skin or ‘barrier’ that prevents germination.

    • Because it’s hydrophobic, it stays in place preventing weed germination.

Glyphosate is a translocated contact herbicide, which is taken up through the foliage, and translocated throughout the whole plant. It has post-emergence activity only, killing seedlings and established weeds.

The two components have a synergistic effect in this formulation, the diflufenican giving the glyphosate faster activity for the initial kill of the weeds.

Tree Safety

The product is completely safe to all mature street trees. It remains near the surface of the soil, and there is little or no lateral movement. The product does not, therefore, come into contact with the trees’ roots.

Upon application, diflufenican moves quickly from water to soil, where it is bound strongly to organic matter. This means that, whilst it remains an active herbicide in the soil, it is unavailable to contaminate the environment via water. Like all herbicides, it biodegrades into organic components over time. Glyphosate is well suited to amenity situations and is therefore very widely used. It is known to be readily dissipated in the environment, leaving no harmful residues.
