The STIHL HSA140 R is a high-performance cordless hedge trimmer built for professional landscapers and garden maintenance teams who need reliable cutting power for tough pruning tasks. Delivering performance comparable to the petrol-powered STIHL HS 82 R, it combines impressive cutting capability with the benefits of battery power, including lower vibration levels, quieter operation, and consistent performance throughout the working day.

Powered by a 36V STIHL AP System lithium-ion battery, the HSA 140 R is specifically designed for annual hedge pruning and reduction work. Its double-sided cutting blade features a 38 mm tooth spacing and a lower blade speed, making it ideal for tackling thicker twigs and branches with clean, precise cuts. Three speed settings of 2,800, 3,000, and 3,200 strokes per minute allow you to match the cutting performance to the task at hand.

The integrated battery slot eliminates the need to carry a battery on your belt or back, helping to improve freedom of movement. For optimum balance and comfort, STIHL recommends pairing the tool with the AP 200 S battery, making extended periods of work more comfortable and less tiring.

Designed with professional users in mind, the HSA 140 R features a rotating multi-function handle, allowing you to work comfortably at different angles when trimming the tops and sides of hedges. It is also IPX4-rated, meaning it can be used in wet and challenging weather conditions.

To help maintain productivity, the hedge trimmer includes an anti-jamming function. If the blades become caught on a thicker branch, simply release and pull the trigger again and the blades will briefly run in the opposite direction to help clear the obstruction. A newly developed gearbox works seamlessly with the efficient EC motor to provide strong cutting performance and rapid acceleration to the selected blade speed.

When used with the recommended AP 200 S battery, the HSA140R can deliver approximately 100 to 150 minutes of working time per charge. For longer operating times, it can also be used with the AP 300 S or AP 500 S batteries, although these will increase the overall weight of the tool and may affect balance.

Before You Start

Always take a moment to check your work area for wildlife before using your hedge trimmer. In particular, inspect hedges for nesting birds and be mindful of small animals such as hedgehogs that may be sheltering nearby.

Features: 

CONSTANT POWER, REGARDLESS OF BATTERY CHARGE STATUS. With other brands of battery tools, the performance usually decreases during work as the battery discharges. This is not the case with STIHL cordless power tools with CONSTANT POWER. Thanks to the intelligent electronics, your STIHL power tool works with consistently high power.

FOR LARGE-VOLUME PRUNING. If you want to cut back thick hedges and shrubs at large scale, a hedge trimmer with pruning version allows you to carry out this work more quickly and easily. R-version blades are equipped with large blade spacing and increased blade height. The gear ratio ensures a very high cutting force.

ERGONOMIC, COMFORTABLE WORKING. The rotatable multi-function handle enables precise and comfortable cutting with your hedge trimmer, both at your side and at head height. It can be rotated 90° to the left and right, and so is also suitable for left-handed and right-handed users. This means the power tool is always in the most ergonomically effective position in your hand.

FOR OPTIMAL HEDGE CUTTING. The double-sided cutting blade facilitates optimum hedge cutting: vertically, horizontally and in corners. Thanks to the double-sided cutting blades, you can effectively trim or prune your hedge – even those thicker branches.

ADAPTABLE SPEED. With the 3-level adjustable blade stroke rate, you can select the right blade speed for every task. You can easily adjust the hedge trimmer using the control cockpit on the rotatable multi-function handle. As the control cockpit rotates with the handle, the switch is always within easy reach, regardless of the handle position.

FOR SAFE TRANSPORT AND PROTECTED STORAGE. Transport and store your hedge trimmer and shrub shears safely and securely with the tailor-made blade scabbard.

PREVENTS DAMAGE. The tip protector prevents damage to the blades. The tip protector also makes it easier to cut close to the ground or along walls.

REDUCES THE RISK OF INJURY. Screw-on cut protection increases your safety, for example when trimming hedges. If the cut protection tip wears out, you can easily replace it.

FOR SAFE STORAGE. The power tool has an integrated carrying ring. This allows you to store your power tool safely and compactly.

LOW-MAINTENANCE AND EFFICIENT. Thanks to its compact design, low weight and high efficiency, the EC engine enables you to work in an energy efficient manner. This engine also has a long service life.

SPLASHWATER PROTECTION. The IPX protection classes define the moisture protection of electrical or electronic devices. The moisture protection test is defined in different stages. IPX4 certifies protection against splashwater from all sides. Battery-powered tools with this certification are therefore designed for daily use, even in rainy conditions.

INTEGRATION INTO STIHL CONNECTED. The power tool is compatible with the Smart Connector, meaning it can be integrated into the STIHL connected system. Once you have attached a Smart Connector to the power tool, after one-time commissioning it will record the power tool’s operating hours and transmit them to the STIHL connected App via Bluetooth. In addition to displaying the operational time, the app also provides an overview of all necessary maintenance, ensuring that you do not overlook important upkeep and that your power tool is always in a ready-to-use condition.

FOR MORE PLEASANT WORK. Vibrations can occur when you put your power tools through their paces, and these are particularly noticeable in the grip area. The buffer and spring elements of the STIHL anti-vibration system reduce the transmission of vibrations to the handle area and therefore to your body. The result is that your power tool is more comfortable to hold and your work is much less tiring.
